Life
Original works by Ngaio Macfarlane, acrylic on canvas. Life, still life and landscapes.
The pieces in the Life exhibition, with the exception of the early work, Still Life I, are painted in a style that is more relaxed, a counterpoint to the Heteroperspective works.
These are works about light, how it defines an object, how it shapes our perceptions of a place.
Doniford Stream 2004 is a study of the stream as it passes close by Williton Station on the West Somerset Railway Line. The clear water flows out from dark shade over a small wear into a light-flooded pooling area and swirls about a densly vegetated islet. Small eddys, curls and flows sparkle across the surface in the sunlight, before returning into the shade, flowing on under a bridge, just out of sight to the left.
