Heteroperspective 2
Axbridge, nestling at the foot of the Mendip Hills, is often described as being "picturesque". The town square, with its mix of half-timbered buildings, Georgian facades and overlooked by the prominent church, epitomises our ideal of a rural English settlement.
The works in Heteroperspective II are studies of rooftops of Axbridge houses. Rather than trying to show the scope of the town, they instead attempt to convey some sense of the experience of "being here". They focus on details that catch the eye as you wander through the town; the contrast of the brick-red roof tiles against a blue sky, the unusual form of the belvedere, the jewel-like stained glass window set in the ochre-painted panel of the Old Drug Store.
These are details which may stand out when you first encounter them but, over the course of time, become so familiar that they can almost disappear from your notice if you don't remind yourself to see them.
